About Us

Who We Are

We are a non-profit that serves both the McGill and Montreal community. Founded in 1921, Players’ Theatre is Montreal’s oldest English-speaking black box theatre and one of the few remaining English theatre groups in Montreal. As an independent student group, Players’ Theatre is completely operated by undergraduate students, and funding comes strictly from the ticket sales of our shows. Each year we produce four season shows, typically plays, as well produce the annual McGill Drama Festival (MDF) which features original plays that are written, acted, produced, and directed by students. Players’ also hosts McGill’s only sketch comedy troupe, Bring Your Own Juice, for one week of shows in March.

Our Mandate

Players' Theatre contributes to both the fine arts community at McGill and in the greater Montreal theatre community by bringing affordable and accessible theatre to students and people of the community alike. Each year, our executive team of dedicated students chooses meaningful pieces of theatre to bring to the stage, fostering new opportunities for actors, technicians, directors, playwrights and beginners in every area! Players' Theatre seeks to stage productions that delve into a diverse array of themes and subject matter, while promoting creativity and diversity of thought, experience and identity through our members and the audiences we engage with. Players' Theatre strives to serve as a resource on campus for those who wish to learn more about theatre, and encourages any member the community to reach out and get involved in any role.
